Role: Systems Engineer

Location: Johannesburg or Cape Town (Hybrid/Remote with occasional travel) - Candidate must be based in South Africa

A dynamic and growing managed services provider is looking for an Intermediate Systems Engineer to join its engineering team on a 6-month contract, with strong potential for renewal or conversion to permanent.

This role is ideal for a technically strong, self-motivated individual with at least 10 years of experience in systems engineering, who enjoys working across a wide range of technologies in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and deliver managed IT services across multiple clients and industries.


• Implement, monitor, and maintain infrastructure solutions (on-premise and cloud).


• Lead or assist in technical projects, upgrades, and migrations.


• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, networking, and security issues.


• Collaborate with engineering leads and client stakeholders.


• Work independently and remotely, while managing tasks based on business priorities.

Core Technical Skills

• Windows Server & Active Directory (AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, ADFS)


• Linux (Advanced level required)


• Virtualization: Hyper-V, VMware, Citrix


• IT Security (endpoint, system, and network)


• Firewalls: NAT, VPN, packet filtering (FortiGate, Watchguard, etc.)


• Networking: TCP/IP, VLANs, Routing


• Cloud Platforms: AWS and/or Azure (certification preferred)


• Infrastructure Monitoring & Data Protection Tools


• Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Defender)


• Backup & recovery tools: Veeam, Keepit, Redstor


• Containerization: Docker/Kubernetes (advantageous)


• Scripting and DevOps knowledge a bonus

Tech Stack Exposure (Preferred but not limited to):

• Microsoft 365 Compliance & Admin Centre


• Citrix XenServer, VMWare, Hyper-V


• Endpoint & network security (Watchguard, FortiGate)


• RedHat or similar Linux distributions


• Mikrotik, Dell Networking/Storage


• ConnectWise Automate


• Microsoft SQL


• BitTitan tools for O365 migrations
