Senior Technician

Are you the Senior Technician who leads from the front  and still gets your hands dirty?

We're looking for an experienced Senior Technician on behalf of a well-established South African manufacturer and distributor of electronic and mechanical equipment, with a branch based in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity with a competitive package and real scope to make the role your own.

This isn't a purely supervisory position. You'll be taking full ownership of the Electronic and Mechanical Repair Department: managing a team of technicians, overseeing daily repair operations, and maintaining service delivery standards — while remaining actively involved in advanced technical work on the floor. If you're the kind of technician who can chair a technical forum in the morning, mentor a junior through a difficult fault in the afternoon, and still close out a complex PCB-level repair before end of day, this role was built for you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Electronic and Mechanical Repair Department, ensuring service levels, turnaround times, and quality standards are consistently met across the team.

  • Performing advanced PCB-level diagnostics, component-level fault finding, and repairs across a range of electronic and mechanical equipment, including electronic control circuits and motors.

  • Planning and prioritising the repair board, allocating workloads across the team, and ensuring that all highlighted technical issues are resolved timeously and escalated where necessary.

  • Training, mentoring, and developing your technical team — keeping staff fully informed of product updates, procedural changes, and evolving repair requirements.

  • Managing warranty authorisation, maintaining OHS compliance across the workshop, and providing field or on-site technical support when required.

What we're looking for:

  • A minimum of an NQF Level 6 qualification in Electrical Engineering — whether that's an Occupational Certificate, a National Diploma, or an N6 combined with 4 to 5 years of relevant practical experience.

  • Strong, hands-on experience in electronics and mechanical repair, with the ability to fault find and repair equipment to circuit board level — this is a non-negotiable requirement for the role.

  • Extensive knowledge of electronic control circuits, mechanical systems, and the repair of motors, built through real workshop or field experience.

  • Proven experience leading or supervising a technical team, with the coaching and communication skills to bring people along with you.

  • A valid South African driver's licence and your own reliable vehicle — both are essential for this position.

If your career has been built in a workshop, your team respects you as much for what you know as for how you lead, and you're ready for a role where your technical depth and leadership capability are both genuinely valued — let's talk.
