Location: Dallas, TX or remote in a major Metro hub near a Tier 1 airport. Relocation package available. 



Compensation: Up to $130k base salary + 40% uncapped commission

Job Title



Software Sales Engineer





Summary / Objective



The Software Sales Engineer is responsible for supporting sales teams through product positioning, technical discovery, solution sizing, and customer demonstrations. This role plays a critical part in winning customer confidence by clearly articulating software value and technical fit. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in network management systems and networking software.





Essential Job Functions



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:




  • Serve as the primary technical resource supporting sales engagements for software solutions

  • Lead technical discovery sessions to gather customer requirements and align solutions to business needs

  • Deliver high-impact, customer-specific product demonstrations

  • Design and present solution architectures, integration approaches, and technical documentation for proposals and RFPs

  • Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to communicate customer feedback and influence the product roadmap

  • Support proof-of-concept (PoC) deployments, trials, and pilot projects from evaluation through deployment

  • Participate in sales discussions via web conference, audio conference, and on-site meetings

  • Perform live and remote demonstrations and PoCs

  • Establish trust and credibility with customers and internal stakeholders as a subject-matter expert

  • Assist sales teams with pricing support, proposal creation, and statements of work (SOWs)

  • Interface with cross-functional teams related to product development and implementation

  • Provide timely project updates to internal engineering and project management teams

  • Deliver technical training on products, systems, and solutions to internal staff as needed

  • Conduct ongoing technology assessments, research emerging networking software and features, and recommend cost-effective deployment strategies





Required Competencies & Qualifications




  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience

  • Strong understanding of technical software sales; experience selling networking or IT software preferred

  • Working knowledge of Network Management Systems from major vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Nokia) preferred

  • Familiarity with networking technologies including:

    • IP/MPLS

    • Optical transport

    • SNMP

    • NetConf/YANG

    • REST APIs



  • Experience supporting sales efforts through technical presentations and solution design

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and documentation skills

  • Ability to follow documented procedures accurately

  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies as they are introduced





Supervisory Responsibility



This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility but may provide coaching and mentoring to peers within the department.





Work Environment



This is a remote position. Candidates must maintain a professional home office with reliable broadband internet. Travel may be required to support sales engagements and customer meetings.





Physical Demands



There are no ongoing physical demands. The role may occasionally require lifting up to 50 lbs for lab, demonstration, or PoC hardware installation.





Travel



Moderate travel within the continental United States is expected to support sales activities and customer engagements.





Education & Experience




  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field

    OR

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience





Language Skills




  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and business documentation

  • Ability to write technical proposals, procedures, and testing documentation

  • Ability to present technical concepts clearly and respond to customer questions effectively

Certifications are not required for this position.
