About the Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of one of South Africa's most respected names in telecommunications and ICT infrastructure — a business that has spent years building and operating some of the country's most critical connectivity backbone. With a significant and growing footprint across the enterprise and wholesale connectivity market, this is an organisation that takes network reliability seriously and invests in the people responsible for maintaining it. This is a senior NOC Engineer role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes operational environment and has the technical depth and composure to manage complex incidents on infrastructure that operates at genuine national scale.
The Role
As a Senior NOC Engineer, you will serve as a key line of defence in maintaining the availability, performance, and integrity of the client's network infrastructure. You will work within a structured operations environment, taking ownership of incident detection, triage, escalation, and resolution across a complex, multi-technology network. The role suits someone who combines strong technical ability with a disciplined, process-driven approach and remains effective under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor network infrastructure across multiple technology domains, ensuring rapid detection and response to faults, degradations, and anomalies
- Manage the full incident lifecycle from initial detection through to resolution and post-incident documentation
- Perform first and second-line troubleshooting across routing, switching, transmission, and connectivity platforms
- Escalate complex or high-impact incidents to the appropriate engineering teams in a timely and well-documented manner
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of incidents, changes, and network events in line with operational procedures
- Contribute to the development and refinement of NOC processes, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
- Liaise with vendors, carriers, and internal stakeholders during major incidents to coordinate resolution efforts
- Identify recurring fault patterns and proactively flag systemic issues to senior engineering teams
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum five years of experience in a NOC, network operations, or closely related technical operations role within a telecommunications or ICT environment
- Solid working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals — routing protocols, switching, MPLS — and the ability to troubleshoot confidently at layers 2 and 3
- Familiarity with network monitoring and fault management platforms and ticketing systems
- Experience operating within a carrier, ISP, or backbone infrastructure environment is strongly preferred and will be weighted heavily in shortlisting
- Exposure to transmission technologies and an understanding of how transport infrastructure underpins the broader network is advantageous
- A relevant networking certification is preferred; candidates with strong demonstrated operational experience will equally be considered
- Excellent communication skills — you will be expected to provide clear, concise updates to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders during incidents
- A calm, methodical approach to high-pressure situations is essential
