Data Centre Senior Manager Mechanical Design

Our client, a major global data center developer, is seeking a strategic and visionary Senior Manager of Mechanical Design to lead the planning and execution of their data center HVAC and liquid cooling systems.
In this leadership role, they will be responsible for the entire mechanical design lifecycle—from conceptual capacity planning and technology innovation to final construction drawing review. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring our facilities meet the highest standards of performance, efficiency, and reliability on a global scale.
#### **Key Responsibilities**
* **Technical Leadership & Strategy:** Define and own the mechanical design strategy for our data center portfolio, ensuring alignment with business goals for capacity, reliability, and sustainability.
* **End-to-End Project Management:** Lead the planning, design, and design management of data center projects. Oversee the development of design schemes, manage external design partners, and conduct rigorous reviews of all construction documents.
* **System Optimization & Standards:** Develop, maintain, and continuously improve our global mechanical design standards, manuals, and best practices. Drive innovation to optimize performance and total cost of ownership (TCO).
* **Technology Innovation:** Research, evaluate, and implement new HVAC and liquid cooling technologies to enhance data center efficiency, density, and scalability. Serve as our internal subject matter expert on advanced cooling solutions.
* **Procurement & Vendor Management:** Lead the technical evaluation and bidding process for major HVAC equipment and contractor selection.
* **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Provide expert technical support to construction, operations, and commissioning teams. Ensure design intent is realized on-site and resolve complex field engineering challenges.
* **Lifecycle Management:** Manage the mechanical design from initial concept through end-of-life, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
#### **Qualifications & Experience**
**Required:**
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
* 8+ years of progressive experience in HVAC design management, specifically within mission-critical facilities (data centers, pharmaceutical, etc.).
* A proven track record of independently leading the planning and detailed design of large-scale, complex HVAC systems.
* Deep expertise in system design principles, load calculations, and the application of major equipment (chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CRAHs).
* Strong familiarity with international data center standards, including TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier Classification, as well as relevant national building and mechanical codes.
* Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to lead international teams and communicate complex concepts clearly.
**Highly Preferred:**
* Direct hands-on experience with liquid cooling system design and implementation; experience with projects exceeding 10MW is a significant advantage.
* Experience developing corporate or industry-wide design standards within a top-tier engineering consultancy, design institute, or data center operator.
* Proven experience managing and mentoring a team of engineers or designers.
* Experience working on large-scale data center projects in multiple international markets.
