Job Title: Materials Engineer

Reporting To: Engineering Manager / Discipline Lead
Job Purpose
To lead and deliver materials engineering support across all phases of engineering design, procurement, fabrication, and installation in the marine and offshore energy sector. The role focuses on the proper selection, specification, and use of materials in compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and project performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of material and fabrication specifications for structural components, piping, and mechanical systems.
Participate in constructability reviews, ensuring optimal material properties, availability, weldability, and inspection compatibility.
Provide technical support through procurement, fabrication, and installation stages.
Conduct studies on material behaviour, corrosion, and welding technologies.
Interface with engineering, production, QA/QC, suppliers, and fabrication teams to ensure compliance with design and specifications.
Approve and review engineering deliverables and subcontractor documentation.
Support supplier qualification processes, inspections, and quality surveillance activities.
Plan manpower and resources, and mentor junior materials engineers for technical and professional growth.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science (required)
International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification (preferred)
Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it (preferred)
Experience:
12–15 years in FEED/EPC projects within the marine, oil & gas, or offshore energy industries
Minimum 3–5 years in a leadership/management role
Strong background in metallurgy, corrosion, and materials for offshore and oil & gas structures
Knowledge & Skills:
In-depth knowledge of metallic material standards (e.g., DNV, ISO, API, NORSOK, AMPP)
Experience with procurement of structural steel, forgings, and piping
Familiar with IACS unified requirements and classification society rules
Proficient in English (spoken and written)
