Core IP Network Engineer (6-Month Contract) – Dublin (Onsite)
We are seeking an experienced Core IP Network Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team on a 6-month onsite contract in Dublin, Ireland. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a large-scale service provider environment, contributing to critical network build and migration projects.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Core Network Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in delivering and supporting Core IP network changes. The position is heavily focused on network build, MPLS configuration, and core migrations, with some involvement in operational support.
You’ll work closely with architects and cross-functional teams to implement scalable, future-proof network solutions across a complex core infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and implement configuration changes across MPLS-based networks
- Plan and execute physical interconnects and service migrations
- Deliver IP transit implementations and migration activities
- Collaborate with IP architects to support the evolution of the Core IP network
- Develop and test bespoke services in lab environments, including scripting and templating for scalable deployments
- Perform hardware/software upgrades and migrations within agreed maintenance windows
- Configure, support, and maintain core network devices (P, PE, BNG routers, aggregation switches)
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues within tight timelines
- Escalate advanced faults to vendor TAC teams and support resolution, including lab replication where required
- Ensure smooth handover of new services from delivery into operations
- Manage IPv4 and IPv6 addressing schemes
Requirements
- Strong experience with MPLS and Core IP networking in a service provider environment
- Proven track record in network migrations, upgrades, and large-scale deployments
- Solid understanding of IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and management
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to perform under pressure
- Experience with scripting and automation tools (desirable)
