Are you the engineer people call when the network, the firewall and the hypervisor all point at each other?

Our client is a well-established South African technology manufacturer with in-house R&D, production facilities and an international footprint. They are looking for an ICT Engineer II to join their infrastructure team at their head office in Randburg. This is a permanent position reporting to the Regional Infrastructure Manager for the Middle East and Africa. It's a replacement role, so they are looking for someone who can step in soon. This role suits a hands-on infrastructure engineer who enjoys breadth. You will keep the business's core platforms stable, secure and recoverable, across networking, security, virtualisation, backup and cloud services. You will support environments that serve business operations, manufacturing and R&D across multiple sites.

The role

You will administer and support the company's MikroTik network environment, including routing, switching, wireless, VPN and VLANs. You will also maintain the Palo Alto firewall estate, security policies and remote access. On the platform side, you will look after the VMware vSphere virtualisation and compute environment and take part in upgrades, capacity planning and lifecycle work.

You will support backup, replication and data protection, maintain disaster recovery runbooks and take part in recovery testing. You will act as a Level 2 and Level 3 escalation point for infrastructure, network and platform issues, lead root cause analysis on recurring problems and share your knowledge with junior ICT staff. You will also support cloud and identity platforms, external DNS, certificates and edge security services.

The team values documentation and good change control. You will keep configurations, procedures and technical records accurate and audit-ready, and use scripting and automation to reduce manual effort where it makes sense.

What you will bring

You will have five to seven years of experience in enterprise ICT infrastructure, networking or systems administration. You should have hands-on experience supporting MikroTik networking, Palo Alto firewalls and VMware vSphere, and a working knowledge of storage, backup and disaster recovery. Experience supporting multi-site environments is important. So are strong troubleshooting, documentation and problem-solving skills. A relevant tertiary qualification and industry-recognised certifications are required in addition.
