About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established South African technology and digital solutions business delivering ICT services across enterprise and commercial markets. With a strong track record of execution and a growing portfolio of clients, the business is at a stage where financial rigour, strategic insight, and operational control are central to its continued growth.

This Finance Manager role is a key appointment. You will be the financial custodian of the business — owning the full accounting function, driving reporting and compliance, and serving as a trusted commercial partner to leadership. This is a hands-on, high-ownership position suited to someone who brings both technical accounting depth and the commercial acuity to translate numbers into decisions.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO or Executive Director, the Finance Manager will take end-to-end responsibility for the financial operations of the business. This spans monthly management accounts, statutory compliance, treasury, and cash management, through to budget oversight and the financial analysis that underpins strategic planning. You will work closely with operations and sales leadership to ensure financial data is accurate, timely, and actionable.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Management Accounts

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.

  • Produce variance analysis and commentary for executive review.

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure integrity of all financial records.

  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.

Compliance & Statutory Obligations

  • Manage all statutory submissions — SARS (VAT, PAYE, provisional tax, income tax), CIPC, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process from preparation through sign-off.

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS for SMEs or applicable accounting standards.

  • Maintain awareness of and adherence to POPIA obligations as they relate to financial data.

Cash Flow & Treasury

  • Monitor daily cash positions and manage cash flow forecasting.

  • Oversee creditors and debtors management, including ageing analysis and escalation of overdue accounts.

  • Manage banking relationships and ensure appropriate authorisation controls are in place.

  • Administer payroll in coordination with HR, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with departmental heads.

  • Develop rolling forecasts and scenario models to support operational decision-making.

  • Track actuals against budget and flag material variances proactively.

Commercial & Strategic Support

  • Provide financial input on client contracts, pricing models, and vendor agreements.

  • Support executive leadership with financial analysis for strategic initiatives, new business proposals, and investment decisions.

  • Advise on cost optimisation opportunities and efficiency improvements across the business.

Systems & Controls

  • Own the accounting system and ensure it is accurately maintained and properly utilised.

  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.

  • Identify and drive process improvements in the finance function.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • BCom Accounting, BCom Finance, or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification — non-negotiable.

  • CA(SA), CIMA, or equivalent professional designation — advantageous.

Experience

  • 5–8 years of progressive experience in a finance management or financial controller capacity.

  • Proven track record managing the full accounting function in a SME or mid-market business environment.

  • Experience in a technology, ICT, telecoms, or project-based services business — advantageous.

  • Demonstrated experience managing external audits, SARS submissions, and statutory compliance.

  • Exposure to multi-entity or group accounting structures — advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Strong command of accounting software — Sage, Xero, Pastel, or equivalent.

  • Advanced Excel proficiency (financial modelling, pivot tables, complex formulas).

  • Solid understanding of South African tax law, VAT, PAYE, and Companies Act requirements.

  • Familiarity with payroll administration and HR interface processes.

Personal Attributes

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail — you catch things others miss.

  • Commercially minded — you understand that finance exists to enable the business, not just report on it.

  • Strong communicator — able to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Self-directed and organised — you manage competing deadlines without needing to be chased.

  • Discreet and trustworthy — you handle sensitive financial and commercial information with appropriate confidentiality.
