Data Centre Mechanical Engineer



 



A leading international data centre operator is seeking an experienced Data Centre Mechanical Engineer to support the 24/7 operation of mission-critical facilities in Finland.



 



This role sits within live operations and focuses on the reliability, efficiency, and compliance of all mechanical systems, leveraging Finland’s climate advantages to drive best-in-class cooling performance and energy efficiency.



 



The Role



You will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of mechanical infrastructure across one or more data centre sites, ensuring safe, resilient, and efficient performance in a Tier III / Tier IV environment.



 



Key responsibilities include:




  • Operation and maintenance of HVAC and cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chillers, free cooling)

  • Oversight of water systems, drainage, and fire mechanical systems

  • Fault diagnosis, emergency response, and incident resolution

  • Free cooling optimisation and waste-heat recovery initiatives

  • Compliance with Finnish and EU regulations and safety standards

  • Participation in audits, safety drills, and regulatory inspections

  • Collaboration with electrical and operations teams

  • Supplier coordination and technical documentation management

  • Continuous improvement of mechanical performance and PUE



 



Key Requirements




  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services

  • 3+ years’ experience in data centre or critical facilities mechanical operations

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC, cooling, and fire mechanical systems

  • Experience working in Tier III / Tier IV environments

  • Familiarity with free cooling and low-temperature operating conditions

  • Confident responding to incidents in a 24/7 operational environment



 



Preferred Experience




  • Prior experience operating data centres in Finland or the Nordics

  • Strong understanding of Finnish and EU standards (EN 50600, safety regulations)

  • Experience with BMS / EMS platforms

  • Exposure to energy efficiency, waste-heat reuse, or sustainability projects

  • Refrigeration / air-conditioning certification

  • English language capability
