FPG is looking for a Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering to join one of the largest and most respected engineering consultancies in the industry. This is a unique opportunity to lead critical mechanical engineering projects in the heart of London, working on cutting-edge data centre environments.
As the Technical Director, you will oversee the development of mechanical engineering solutions in mission-critical environments, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and providing expert guidance to both internal teams and clients. This role will play a key part in growing and developing a highly skilled team of engineers while driving new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of mechanical design strategies, ensuring alignment with new technologies to support customer needs and business goals.
- Stay informed on the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and data centre technology, recommending innovations to improve infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish design criteria and develop budget strategies that meet client needs and organisational objectives.
- Provide expert technical review and direction for global site selection programs, including sub-station design and site power distribution in partnership with electrical utility providers.
- Plan, organise, and manage detailed work packages, including specifications, reports, calculations, and drawings/models at various design stages.
- Advise clients on mechanical systems and concepts, ensuring compliance with safety codes and industry standards.
- Oversee critical cooling infrastructure, including cooling generation topologies, redundancy requirements, and calculations for cooling and fuel storage.
- Lead the development and implementation of HVAC, LEV, and LTHW systems, as well as non-critical cooling and heating solutions.
- Manage public health systems (water, sewage, drainage), fuel systems, leak detection, trace heating, and fire protection systems.
- Maintain vendor relationships and drive continuous professional development within the team.
- Extensive expertise with BMS and control systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on data centre infrastructure.
- Expertise in mechanical system design for mission-critical environments.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
