This role provides technical expertise, processes, and tools to the site operations team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for new campus design, system operations, incident root cause analysis (RCA), training, vendor management, maintenance optimization, and troubleshooting. The SME ensures continuous, reliable, and efficient operations of critical environments.


They play a pivotal role in various Operational Excellence initiatives, including sales deal development, data center infrastructure design evaluation, validating operating conditions, site acceptance, M&A support, annual site operational audits, and assessing next-level technologies. By working cross-functionally, this individual will elevate Aligned's technical and operational capabilities and enhance customer service.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engineering and Design
  • Establish operational standards and functional requirements for capital projects.
  • Review drawings, contracts, and customer requirements to offer operational insights on mechanical technical standards and capital project updates.
  • Ensure that capital projects deliver reliable, efficient, and sustainable critical infrastructure.
  • Support enhancements to equipment and systems for both existing and new capital projects.
  • Training and Development of Personnel
  • Develop training content and facilitate training for operations personnel in collaboration with site operations leadership and training teams.
  • Conduct training sessions, drills, and monitored evolutions to maintain high technical competence across all Aligned sites.
  • Mentor and provide development support to high-potential personnel across functions.
  • Reliability and Efficiency Expertise
  • Offer technical frameworks for site performance analytics, failure analysis, and issue resolution.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of critical system design, operations, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Drive improvements in system performance, resource efficiency, and infrastructure reliability.
  • Promote a safety culture to minimize risk and injury to personnel.
  • Global Support to Site Operations Teams
  • Develop industry-leading processes and procedures to meet customer requirements, ensure proper critical infrastructure operation, reduce OPEX through quality maintenance, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to Aligned's standards, policies, and procedures through review of construction documentation, participation in maintenance and acceptance activities, and data center audits.
  • Develop standards for business continuity plans and runbooks involving site management, vendor management, maintenance practices, alarm and incident management, and compliance.
  • Oversee projects and provide technical support for complex activities as needed.
  • Triage and recover critical equipment or systems during incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and lead incident investigations, communicating findings to support customer communications.
  • Analyze incidents and equipment failures to identify trends and areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with customers to align Aligned with industry advancements.
  • Lead the technical review and validation of new technologies.

  • Communicate complex topics clearly to diverse audiences across departments.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of relevant mechanical industry experience or mechanical trade level experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 4+ years of relevant mechanical industry experience is acceptable in lieu of 8 years of experience.
  • Preference for candidates with a Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • Advanced experience in interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to analyze critical infrastructure operations, design parameters, alarms, indicators, and performance trends.
  • Expertise in the lifecycle of data center operations, from design to event management.
  • Proven ability to create standards and programs ensuring top-tier data center operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.
